Firkin 49 Bottle Story
There’s gold in these hills! Two types indeed, prospector’s gold & liquid gold from the Ochil Hills in the Highlands. In the 17 century, the Ochil Hills enjoyed a mini gold rush and was for a very short period very lucrative. Alas it was short lived. Luckily the liquid gold proved to be more long-lasting and this is the tale of Tullibardine Distillery & Firkin 49.
Take a 2012Tullibabardine matured in a first-fill Bourbon barrel, which is a pretty good dram, and transform it into really outstanding whisky Firkin 4. Tullibardine Distillery, founded in 1949, stands at the ‘Gateway to the Highands’ close by the Ochil Hills about 50 miles north west of Edinburgh.
Softer and somewhat creamier, this Tullibardine dram is paired with a unique combination of 2 styles of Spanish Sherry, a Nutty Amontillado and a rich Oloroso. This delivers a unique sherry profile of richness, rounded & nutty with elements of dried fruit.
Pair this with our custom-made double oak casks and the result is a stunning new take on Tullibardine which is a great combination of creamy malt, nuttiness and richness.
In a word, its ‘Lip-smacking delicious’ so soft & nutty - Firkin 49 Single Cask Single Malt
Tasting Note
Firkin 49 I hear you ask. This distillery and yours truly were founded in ’49.
This is a cracker. It’s kinda long but narrow and jam-packed with creamy butterscotch toffee, crisp malt and some fruit oak. It hangs around with a tad of cinnamon & sweet biscuit.
A Firkin charmer indeed!
