- From a refill ex-Bourbon barrel, this is an inviting deep gold, quite a remarkable age for a whisky of any kind.
Immediately we find vanilla ice cream, ripe pears and coconut tanning oil. As it begins to open, we can add sweet candy, sherbet, and caramel covered baked apples. There is also evidence of fresh fruit salad and orange zest, linseed oil and shred flat leaf parsley, all wrapped in a well-aged and balanced oak “cloak” with old fashioned ladies’ face compact.
The taste brings oiled lemon boiled sweets, Clafoutis, fresh pears, a little moss and sanded oak wood. Again, it develops, now with Devonshire clotted cream, liquid caramel, choc-ice and cheap ice cream.
Very complex and yet perfectly balanced and gentle old grain.
